Bandar Seri Begawan - Secondary students in Brunei Darussalam will be able to get their 2008 PMB (Penilaian Menengah Bawah) exam results via SMS.
| This SMS service was first rendered to parents/guardians of Primary Six students who sat for the PSR (Penilaian Sijil Rendah) exam earlier this month. This innovative project, which was spearheaded by the Examination Department and Information & Communications Technology (ICT) Department of the Ministry of Education, received an overwhelming respotse from the public. In light of this, the Ministry of Education has decided to offer this service to students who sat for the PMB exam. The Weekend Bulletin was informed about the new service by Awang Haji Abdul Rahim bin Dents, the | |
Ministry of Education's Acting Director of Information and Communication Technology, earlier this week. The service is made possible thanks to modern technology collaboration between the Ministry of Education's ICT Department, DST Communications Sdn Bhd (DSTCom), b.Mobile Sdn Bhd and Mach Telecommunications Systems Sdn Bhd (MachTel). Subscribers (students and parents) who wish to subscribe to the service are required to register via the Ministry of Education's online Web portal at www. moe.edu.bn or via SMS. (The SMS registration is only applicable for DST subscribers). To register via mobile phone, subscribers need to text the following message: MOE |
A text message will be sent to the subscriber's phone stating whether their registration was successful or not. To cancel a registration, subscribers must text: MOE
Registrations made through the ministry's Web portal or mobile phones are free. This service will be available from December 1, 2008, onwards.
Upon successful subscription to the service, every PMB SMS result received via SMS will be charged $3 for both DST and b.Mobile users.
Awang Haji Muhd Masdi bin Mud Sa'idun, the Ministry of Education's Acting Director of Examination, said that the PMB SMS results will only be "pushed" (sent via SMS) to the subscribers once the Department of Examination has granted permission to release the results.
Awg Hj Abdul Rahim, however, stressed that the Ministry of Education will not be held responsible for those who entered incorrect information during registration. He also reminded prepaid mobile subscribers to ensure that they have sufficient credit in order to receive the SMS result.
More than 7,000 students sat for this year's PMB exam.
Awg Hj Abdul Rahim said that if the "PMB SMS result" service proves to be another success, the Ministry of Education may consider extending the service to '0' Level and 'A' Level students in the near future.
He also told the Weekend Bulletin that the Ministry of Education is currently in the process of creating e-mail accounts for students across the country - from Primary Five level to higher learning institutions. Through this initiative, it is hoped that tech-savvy students can one day get their exam results with a single click of the mouse.
Awg Hj Abdul Rahim explained that this type of service has been rendered to students in other countries. "(The service) will be free of charge, so this will be something parents should be looking forward to." -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
